Welcome to Levengrove Dental Care
CHANGES IN NHS DENTISTRY
The Scottish Government have negotiated with the Dental Profession about NHS dental charges. The payments are influenced to try to prevent rather than treat dental disease. This has previously worked very successfully with the Childsmile programme resulting in a significant reduction in dental disease in Scottish children over the last 20 years.
This Practice has been committed to providing the local community with NHS dental care since its inception in 1948. The changes from November 2023 are essential to continuing this commitment. If Levengrove Dental Care does not take on these changes, we will have to withdraw from NHS service. We have considered this carefully and shall continue to provide NHS care to our local community.
Scaling of tartar/calculus from teeth is still available. Your dentist will do this for you but if you wish to achieve a more bespoke level of hygiene treatment our hygiene therapist, Charlotte, will be available to provide this service.
Check-ups will no longer need to be every 6 months. This will be assessed at each check-up. If you are considered to be a low risk for dental disease your check-up will be either every 12, 18 or 24 months. (Many patients who we would consider to be low risk and have not been seen for 3-4 years because of the pandemic have no deterioration in their condition over this time.) High risk patients will be seen every 6 months, or more often, depending upon their level of risk.
If you are a low risk patient but wish to be seen every 6 months this can be done but is not available on the NHS.
